Following on from the recent “switch it off” campaign, serviced office company Avanta has introduced a new energy saving initiative with a new office computer power saving device that will help office dwellers to reduce their CO2 emissions.
Called the ecobuttonTM the new eco-friendy device is a USB that, when plugged into the computer, illuminates to remind the user to press it every time they are not using their computer. When pressed the computer goes into ‘ecomode’ helping to reduce the energy that it is using and now that Avanta are offering the device to all of their clients, could be used in around 4400 computers helping to save up to 2992 tonnes of CO2 a year.
Avanta is hoping that the new ecobuttonTM will be as successful as the previous “switch it off” campaign which was aimed at reducing energy use across its 17 serviced office business centres across London and the UK by encouraging clients to switch off all electrical appliances when they were not being used, particularly over long periods such as weekends. Following the campaign launch Avanta has reported that some centres have reduced energy use by up to 10%.
David Kinnaird, Avanta’s Director of Group Operations, said: “As a company, we are always looking at ways to reducing our energy use and encouraging occupiers to ‘think green’. The ecobutton is the latest initiative which is geared towards reducing CO2 and of course there is the added financial incentive of reducing electricity bills. “
